Walk & Talk Therapy in Boulder County

Sometimes the most meaningful conversations happen when we’re moving.

Walk & Talk Therapy offers the opportunity to step outside the traditional therapy office and meet in a natural setting while we talk. These sessions combine the benefits of therapy with gentle movement and time outdoors, which can help many people feel more relaxed, open, and grounded.

Instead of sitting across from each other, we walk side-by-side along a quiet trail or park path while focusing on the same goals we would address in a traditional therapy session.

Why Walk & Talk Therapy?

Being outdoors and incorporating movement into therapy can support emotional and mental well-being. Research in Ecotherapy suggests that nature-based experiences may help reduce stress and improve mood.

Many clients find that walking while talking:

  • Reduces feelings of stress or anxiety

  • Helps thoughts flow more naturally

  • Makes difficult conversations feel easier

  • Promotes a sense of calm and clarity

  • Provides a refreshing change from an indoor setting

For some people, walking side-by-side can feel less intimidating than sitting face-to-face.

What a Session Looks Like

Walk & Talk sessions are similar to traditional therapy sessions, just held outdoors.

Sessions are 55–60 minutes

We meet at a designated trail or park location

The walking pace is relaxed and comfortable

We can pause, sit, or slow down whenever needed

The focus of the session remains the same, supporting you in working toward your goals, processing experiences, and building skills for wellbeing.

Who This May Be a Good Fit For

Walk & Talk Therapy may be a great option if you:

  • Enjoy spending time outdoors

  • Feel restless or confined in traditional office settings

  • Think more clearly while moving

  • Want to incorporate wellness and nature into your therapy experience

It can be especially helpful for individuals who feel more comfortable talking while engaged in light movement.

Important Considerations

Because these sessions take place in public outdoor spaces, there are a few important factors to keep in mind. Walk & Talk sessions may be available for established clients and will be discussed together to determine if this is a good fit.

Insurance & Payment

Because Walk & Talk Therapy takes place outside of a traditional clinical office setting, insurance companies typically do not allow these sessions to be billed. For this reason, Walk & Talk sessions are offered on a self-pay basis only and cannot be billed to insurance.

Limited Confidentiality

While we will choose quieter walking routes and be mindful of privacy, complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in public spaces. Occasionally we may pass other people on the trail. If we encounter someone you know, I will allow you to decide how you would like to respond.

Weather and Safety

Sessions are dependent on weather conditions and trail safety. If conditions are not appropriate for an outdoor meeting, we can easily switch to an in-office or virtual session.

Physical Comfort

Walk & Talk sessions involve gentle walking on trails or paths. We will choose routes that are accessible and comfortable for you.
